Chimney Move

So far the climbing has been very similar to that found one series of ledges below on the Royal Arches

But you can see the open book beyond, and the hanging boulders in the oak tree

As you rise above the pines on the Valley floor, you become aware of the incredible beauty of the cliffs asurrounding

Above the tree the face is quite blank. Standing in the highest branches, it is just possible to reach a diagonal crack. This crack affords a good placement. Once set, aid begins with a solid belay from below.

Friction Traverse

Sorting the gear at the end of each climb was always a little time consuming. Each climber had his favorite pitons, and wanted them safely in hand. Some used spray paint. Some painted their initials.
