ATHENS

The Conan's anchor caught that night. Captain Paul was quite upset, as a replacement anchor would cost many thousands of dollars. He donned a wetsuit and swam down to investigate. After tying a second line directly to the anchor and pulling in various directions, it came free. We then sailed north and anchored just outside Mandrakis harbor. Captain Paul commenced ferrying loads to the wharf. Sotiris picked up the luggage, while we walked to the S. Nikolis. We lunched up the street at Mama Sofia's. Then Sotiris drove us to the airport. Another hour and we were in Athens at the Plaka Hotel. The Plaka Hotel had a roof garden and bar affording a fabulous view of Athens, dominated as usual by the Acropolis. Bev and I stayed the evening and retired early for the long day flying tomorrow. The others went greek dancing. In the morning cabs arrived and we were on our way to the airport and back to the US, Ardie to Boston, the rest to San Francisco.
