9/25 BUTTERFLY VALLEY AND LINDOS

We had a day to explore the island of Rhodes, and elected to rent a car. Steve drove. We drove down the north coast, across the island to the little village of Lindos visiting Butterfly Valley along the way.

Lunch on the Mountain

After Butterfly we climbed over a high pass with a beautiful view and drove down to the coast at XXXX. Steve found a wonderful place for lunch up a narrow side road to a ruin on a mountain top with parking and a restaurant.

We ordered wine and a varied selection of greek dishes. This was obviosly a very popular tourist spot along the road to Lindos. There were goats grazing on the hillside below, and a peacock in a cage. A number of cars had been unable to climb the steep hill below, and groups of people were walking.

Lindos

Lindos is perhaps the most popular day excursion from Rhodes. There is a spectacular ruin high on a rock mountain overlooking the sea. A short turn off the main road leads down to a parking area at the foot of the hill. Many paths lead through an area of small shops and up the hill to the ruin. Mules are available for those who wish to ride.
