PANORMITIS
Captain Paul sailed directly to the Panormitis Monastery on the Turkish Coast.
Boarding the Conan
The Conan anchored off Zefiros Beach, a short walk from the S. Nikolis. We boarded at noon. Sotiros drove all our luggage in the station wagon. Allen and Ardie drove with Sotiros. Gus, Andrea, Bev, and I took a circuitous route via Mandraki Harbor, and found Steve, Chris, and luggage already there on our arrival. We met our crew, Captain Paul and Corinne, hostess Laetitia, and seaman Benjamin. Several trips in the dinghey loaded all our baggage. Several more trips and we were all on board except Chris who had decided to swim. He had walked far down the beach to shorten the distance, and become momentarily lost among other swimmers.
Sailing Over
The Conan was an extremely stable craft due to the catamaran hull design. There was a wide table across the stern accomodating the entire party. Conversation and refreshment was enjoyed by all in the light breeze.
The Monastery
The monastery buildings stretched across the back of a quiet cove. We anchored close to shore. Dinner was our first on the boat. Corinne baked a bluefin tuna. The bells of the monastery chimed the hour and half hour throughout the night.
